NU-WAY Truck Driver Training Centers

Nu-Way was founded in October of 2000. The Truck Driving Centers are organized to provide professionally trained individuals for careers in the trucking industry.

Nu-Way classrooms are located in Pontiac, Michigan and St. Louis, Missouri.

Nu-Way Truck Driving Centers are privately held corporations owned and managed by Clint Yerkes, president.

Nu-Way is an official Third Party Examination site for those individuals who need to be tested by a qualified state examiner for their CDL, Class "A" and "B" licenses.

The objective of the Nu-Way Truck Driving Academy is to provide the training required to qualify for entry-level employment as a tractor-trailer driver in interstate and/or intrastate commerce. A full-time student will be scheduled for 160 clock hours for a total of 16 days.

Section I: Classroom

This section is to prepare the students through theory for the more rigorous training in the Skills Area and Over the Road Driver Training. Each student will be taught the history and future of trucking, vehicle familiarizations and brake usage. In addition, the student will learn the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, types of Tractor-trailers in the industry, how to maintain a Driver's Daily Log, how to secure loads and hot to read a road map. The students' training will be measured through written examinations.

Section II : Skill Training Area

This section is designed to ensure that the student, upon graduation, will be able to safely maneuver a tractor-trailer unit, regardless of size, into a parked position. The parked position may be in a dock or loading area where the driver is required to back from the left sight side. In addition, the graduate will be able to properly maneuver a corner without touching a stationary object. The student will also learn hand/foot coordination dealing with shifting the transmission in a trip, couple, uncouple and circle of safety will also be practice using mirrors for driving forward and backing a tractor unit in a straight line or into a dock area

Section III : Over-The-Road Instruction

This section will prepare a student, upon graduation, to be able to safely drive a tractor-trailer unit on the nation's highways. The student will be taught to handle all types of traffic situations over various terrains and with varied vehicle lengths and widths. Each student will have an opportunity to maneuver the vehicle through urban and city environments to ensure that they become familiar with all types of traffic. The student will be tested on pre-trip, coupling and uncoupling procedures and circle of safety. the student will be required to maintain a Truck Driver's Daily Log.
