Facilities and Equipment
CDT's facilities are located at 600 Patton Avenue, West Babylon, NY. They consist of approximately 2,700 square feet of offices, lounges, and classroom areas. The school utilizes a two-acre training field for the students skill maneuvering and off-road exercises. The school also offers a wide variety of equipment to train on. We have deisel tractors, single axle and full screw, transmissions that range from 5 to 9 speed road ranges, loaded and unloaded trailers, buses and straight trucks. By using this variety of equipment, it better prepares an individual for a swift transition into the trucking industry
Admission and Acceptance
Students are admitted, trained and referred for employment without regard to race, color, creed, sex, age, national origin, veteran status or any disability provided in the American with Disabilities Act.
When an individual wishes to apply at CDT, they should contact the school. They will be invited to the school for a personal tour and given a personal interview detailing all requirements and procedures for entrance. An enrollment agreement must be completed. Other information may be required to determine qualifications. If you do not meet all requirements, a waiver may be granted by the officers and staff of the school, but only after evaluation.
We do not have facilities for handicapped students.
Admission Requirements:

  • You must be at least 21 years of age (Exception: 18 years old for Class B Intrastate)
  • You must be able to obtain the proper learner's permit through the Department of Motor Vehicles.
  • All applicants must be reviewed by the School Director and can be accepted or rejected at his discretion
CAREER TRAINING I - TRACTOR TRAILER
304 HOURS TOTAL - 8 WEEKS

152 Hours Road & Skill Driving

Career Training I program objective is to take individuals with little or no trucking experience and prepare them for entry level tractor trailer and truck driving employment. This program is well suited for students with little or no standard shift experience.

CDL Permit Preparation is the 1st part of the course to prepare student for written exam at the Department of Motor Vehicles. Then training will begin with classroom studies on industry related material, such as Air Brake System, Defensive Driving, Log Book Training, Hazardous Materials, Tankers, Map Reading and Trip Planning, Air Brake System and Department of Transportation Rules and Regulations. This program invlolves a full text book called Bumper to Bumper for their curriculum studies.

At the completion of classroom students will move on to the road and skill portion of the program. This is where standard shift training will be taught for anyone with no experience with shifting. Students will begin on 6 speed International Tractors and move upwards to 9 and 10 speed transmissions. Industry related backing manuevers and road test procedures are taught. Daily grading and progress is monitored on each student. New York State Road Testing is included (3 tries) at the completion of the course. Once course is satisfactorily completed a school certificate will be issued. Job Placement Assistance will be available to student graduates.

DOT Physcial Exam and Drug Screen will be required.



CAREER TRAINING II - TRACTOR TRAILER
200 HOURS TOTAL - 5 WEEKS
(Full Time)
85 Hours Classroom
115 Hours Road & Skill Driving

Career Training II’s program objective is to take individuals with some trucking background or solid standard shift skills and prepare them for entry level positions in tractor trailer or truck driving.

Students will prepre in the classroom for their CDL Permit Test, Air Brakes, Defensive Driving, Hazardous Materials, Department of Transportation Rules and Regulations, Map Reading, Trip Planning and Log Books.

Road and Skill work will be incorporated into the 5 week schedule and will include various transmissions, loaded and unloaded trailers. Industry related backing maneuvers and road test procedures. Road Testing is included (2 tries) at completion of course. Daily grading and progress is monitored on each student. Job Placement Assistance upon successful completion. School Certificate. DOT Physical and Drug Screen Required.

Career Training II’s Part Time program objective is to take individuals with some trucking background or solid standard shift skills and prepare them for entry level positions in tractor trailer or truck driving. This program is designed for those student who need to work full time and train on a part time basis. All pertinent information is taught as in the Career Training II Full Time Course except the Permit Preparation is accelerated. This would be a good program for those individuals with some prior knowledge of the actual CDL Manual from the Department of Motor Vehicles.
