Get off to a fast start with Roehls Safety and Job Skills Training Program
20 to 26 days of intensive training, then you're on your way - With the successful completion of CDL training from the Roehl Driver Training Center or an independent truck driving school and passage of your Class A Commercial Driver's License test, you're ready for the next step ... expanding your knowledge of safety procedures, freight handling, trip planning, DOT motor carrier rules and Roehl company policies. In addition, you'll learn about the importance of customer service, Roehl's maintenance and fuel systems and how to operate your satellite communications unit.
Experience is the best teacher, and Roehl's Safety and Job Skills Training Program helps you really learn the ropes of over-the-road driving. You'll gain the confidence you can only get by doing it yourself - picking up freight, handling and delivering it - doing it all, but with a specially trained Driver Instructor by your side.
Your orientation will include driving Roehl equipment prior to the start of your "on-the-highway" training. You'll also receive some important classroom training before you hit the road with your Driver Instructor; a real professional who knows the business and can guide you through those parts of the job you find a bit challenging.
EVOLUTION I - You'll spend 10 to 13 days with a Driver Instructor who has been specially trained to help you polish your safe operating skills. You learned how to drive at CDL school. Your Driver Instructor will take you to the next step; how to operate the equipment safely and professionally, day in and day out.
EVOLUTION II - After a few days of home time, you'll start the next evolution of your training. Your Driver Instructor will help you round out your safety and job skills. You'll learn the "management" aspects of the job: managing your time, your trip, and your paperwork. You'll become adept at all the skills you'll need when you're finished with training and in charge of your own truck.
EVOLUTION III - When your training is done, you'll be assigned to a Fleet Manager who specializes in working with the inexperienced driver. You'll be on your own, but you won't be alone. When you're faced with a new situation and need a little guidance, help is a phone call or satellite message away! You'll experience the freedom of the professional Driver, with the comfort of a helping hand when you need it.
ADDITIONAL SKILLS - Shortly after you begin driving on your own, Roehl will also schedule you to complete a collision avoidance course (skid pad), where you'll experience firsthand how to control a tractor-trailer unit in hazardous or adverse weather conditions.
A REWARDING FUTURE - Of equal importance during this period, you and your family will begin to adjust to the changes in the lifestyle a driving career requires. The excitement of handling your own rig can be dampened by the adjustment to being away from home during the week or over the weekend. (A brief period of frustration and doubt is a normal reaction to the challenges of any new job. As you progress, those "new job blues" will disappear.) Keep your goal in sight - driving for Roehl and becoming the best.
As a fully trained Roehl Driver, you'll be able to look forward to regular pay increases, excellent equipment and the industry respect that your fellow professional Roehl Drivers have earned over the past four decades.
